Many escape death as gunmen storm APC rally in Imo

Gunmen, Monday, stormed the venue of the All Progressives Congress (APC) rally in Omuma, Oru East local government area of Imo state and disrupted it.

An eyewitness who spoke to Blueprint correspondent, said the gunmen arrived the scene in five Hilux vans, carrying sophisticated weapons as well as gas bottles and started shooting sporadically which put the APC supporters on the run.

“They later marched into the arena and destroyed all the canopies mounted there, confiscated all the phones abandoned by the owners, destroyed the generator being used to power the place and the vehicle of APC leader in Oru East local government area, Hon Onyekachi Ojiegbe,” he said.

Omuma is the community of the governor of the state, Senator Hope Uzodimma.

However, all efforts to get the Imo Police Command’s spokesman, ASP Henry Okoye, to react to the incident proved abortive as his line was not connecting.
