Many Kano under 5 kids suffer chronic malnutrition – Emir

Chairman Board of Trustees, Nutritional Society of Nigeria (NSN) and Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi II, has estimated that in 2017,  58 per cent of children under 5 suffered chronic malnutrition in Kano state.

He lamented that the country has failed to see nutrition as a fundamental human rights and yet no commitment.

Emir Sanusi raised the alarm at the annual general meeting organised by NSN Wednesday in Abuja.

He charged the Ministry of Health to raise the status of nutrition to a department saying that no director or nutritionist has ever attended a managerial meeting.

He said so far, the country has the highest cases of malnutrition around the world saying, “We are encouraging the figure and not working on how to handle it. It is a shame and it is high time we address it”.

Also, the President of NSN, Bartholomew Brai, stated that the year’s conference; Promotion of Nutrition for Sustainable for Sustainable Development Current Trends and Innovation, was aimed at giving  nutrition a deserved priority.
