Mark to security agencies: Work in harmony to end insurgency

President of the Senate, Senator David Mark has tasked the Armed forces and other security operatives to close ranks and work in harmony in order to have a common approach to the rampaging insurgents in the country.
Mark, who stated this in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Paul Mumeh, yesterday, in Abuja, said the coordinated common approach would go a long way in fighting the insurgents and ending the unnecessary wars in the land.

The statement said Mark, while addressing participants of the Executive management Course 07 of the Institute of Security Studies (ISS) in Abuja, canvassed the need for synergy between among security agents to end the activities of insurgents.
Mark noted that only a strong security arrangement in the country can safe guard and defend democracy even as he blamed the conflicts and crisis to lack of understanding of democratic processes amongst Nigerians.
He stressed that development cannot be achieved when insecurity and other socio-vices are the order of the day in our society.
He said: “The essence of governance is to let people have access to development. Democracy means that everybody is a participant.

If we are to tame the lingering insecurity challenges we are facing as a nation, we must work together as one people.”
He commended the Institute for doing a good job in the area of security intelligence and personnel training even as he urged them to do more by expanding their scope.
Mark assured that the Senate under his leadership would not relent in making legislations capable of bringing to an end the issues of insecurity across the nation.
Earlier, the Director of the Institute, Olalekan Adebayo Odugbemi, acknowledged the matured manner Mark had piloted the affairs of the upper legislative chamber which he noted contributed to the stability in the polity.
