Masari awards N1.9bn 150 Katsina housing units

Katsina state government has awarded contract for the construction of 150 housing units in the state at the cost of N1.9 billion. This was disclosed to newsmen in Katsina by the General Manager of Katsina State Housing Authority, Alhaji Salisu Abubakar Daura, in an interview. Salisu Daura said, of the 150 housing units, 100 were of three bedroom while 50 will be two bedroom houses. He said the houses were designed to suite the culture and religion of the people of the state and with adequate land for future expansion. According to the General Manager, there is 17 million housing deficit in the country, while Katsina has a deficit of one million houses. Daura said the completion period for the houses ranged from 6 weeks to 22 weeks, depending on the number of houses awarded to the contractor. He further disclosed that when completed, the houses would be allocated for sale to the civil servants and the general public.
Alhaji Daura, who described Governor Aminu Bello Masari as “excellent manager of our time,” said within the limited resources available, the governor decided to construct 150 houses to lessen the housing deficit of the state which stands at one million. He further said, this is just the first phase of housing construction in the state as the governor is determined to ensure before leaving office the housing deficit of the state will be brought to zero level. According to him, supervision of the construction work of the houses will be by four groups, staff of the authority, the consultant, the general public and above all the executive governor who may visit the site even at late hours of the night he concluded.
