Masari commends APC officials over peaceful congresses

Katsina state Governor, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari, has said that the APC administration in the state had complied with party’s constitutional provision on disabled people during the congresses. Masari stated this yesterday while speaking during the presentation of empowerment packages to 1, 000 female physically challenged persons in Katsina. The Governor explained that APC’s constitution had spelt out that an office must be preserved for physically challenged persons at ward, local government, state and national chapters of the party. He assured that the APC administration in the state would continue to design policies and programmes to improve the socioeconomic well-being of the physically challenged persons in the state.
This, he said, would be done to curtail street begging in the state, adding that the Bill for the re- establishment of the state Rehabilitation Board “is before the House of Assembly for consideration.” He said the empowerment packages being presented was part of the programme to make them comfortable during the holy month of Ramadan.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Women Aff airs, Hajiya Badiyya Hassan Mashi, expressed gratitude to the Governor for the provision of the empowerment packages for the ministry to take care of the physically challenged females.
She expressed the hope that the beneficiaries would reciprocate the gesture through supporting government policies and programmes. In a goodwill message, the chairman of Joint Association of Disabled Persons, Alhaji Garba Nahuta, told the Governor that they are aware that he had approved N22 million to the office of Special Adviser on Physically Challenged Persons for a census to be conducted to ascertain their population, but lamented that the monies were not released to the office.
Nahuta appealed to the governor to direct for the release of the money, adding that ascertaining the population of physically challenged persons would help in planning welfare packages to them.
