Masari sponsors 60 journalists on self-reliance business

Katsina state government has organised a three-day training for 60 members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on poultry, fisheries and bee-keeping in an effort to make them self-reliant.
The training was organised under the Katsina state Economic Empowerment Directorate (KASEED).
Governor Aminu Masari disclosed this during the opening ceremonies of the training yesterday in Katsina.
Masari, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Economic Empowerment, Alhaji Abdulkadir Mamman-Nasir, said the government organised the training to educate the journalists on how to have a sustainable livelihood after retirement.
Masari said trainees were also expected to educate the general public on management of poultry, fisheries and bee-keeping.
He said that after the training, the participants would also be taught on entrepreneurship course.
According to him, after the course, there would be a test and those who scored 40 per cent and above would be given loans to start businesses as entrepreneurs.
“After the training, we are going to subject you to submit a business proposal, after which those who scored 40 per cent and above will be provided with funding by the state government to start the business,” said.
He said that was why the government involved the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Bank of Agriculture (BOA) in the programme.
Also speaking, the Director, Business Development in the department, Alhaji Abdurrahman Abdu-Zango, said the journalists were selected as agents and medium of awareness creation in the society.
In his remarks, the NUJ Chairman, Katsina state Council, Alhaji Buhari Mamman, thanked the state government for organising the training.
Mamman, who was represented by the Secretary of the Council, Alhaji Tukur Hassan Dan-Ali, gave the assurance that they would put what they learnt into practice.sx
