Matawalle inaugurates enquiry commission on Zamfara banditry, others

Zamfara state governor, Bello Mohammed Matawalle has constituted a commission of enquiry saddled with the responsibility of finding lasting solution to banditry and related crimes in the state.

The panel is also to investigate state and local government projects inherited from his predecessor, Abdulaziz Yari who administered the state from 2011 to 2019.

Speaking during the inauguration of the committee held at the Government House Gusau, Thursday, Governor Matawalle stated that in 2020, two different committees were set up in his administration’s effort to get to the root of the problem of banditry and other related crimes that have affected some parts of the state.

Governor Matawalle hinted that Hon. Justice Abdullahi Yusuf, a former Chief Judge of Katsina state, will chair the committee alongside other eminent personalities who will be guided by the relevant legal ethics, due diligence and high sense of integrity.

“Your commission of enquiry will also address the issues raised by the committee for finding solutions to banditry and the various issues of fraud, abuses and blatant disregard to due process in contracts execution as captured in the reports of the Projects Verification Committees,” Matawalle stated.

“I want to assure you that you have all the government support and free hand to operate without fear or favour. You should take into consideration the interest of the state as a whole, not the interest of any individual. I also direct all the MDAs that may be referred to for any information to give maximum cooperation for the success of the assignment,” he said.

He assured that his government was ready to accept any decision that would proffer solution to the menace in the state.
