Matawalle raises the alarm over escalating banditry in Zamfara

Zamfara state Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle has expressed concerns over the recent escalation in attacks by bandits in some parts of the state.

The governor also described the trend as a serious source of concern even as he described the acts as callous and barbaric.

This is contained in a statement issued to newsmen by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Enlightenment, Media and Communications, Zailani Bappa and made available to Blueprint in Gusau on Sunday.

The governor stated that, the dialogue and reconciliation programme innitated by his administration had provided all the needed support required by the security agencies to enable them carry out their statutory responsibility effectively.

“As we may recall, one of these is the procurement and distribution of 200 brand new vehicles to the security forces and there are a host of other supports being extended to the security forces by the administration,” Matawalle stated.

Matawalle further accused some forces who are bent on frustrating the efforts of his administration to address the security challenge as responsible.

“It is inconceivable that these attacks have been conducted despite the effective deployment of troops across all the black spots in the state,” he lamented

He appealed to the federal government for “a special consideration to be given to Zamfara State in terms of the deployment of more forces for quicker response to all security threats.”

The governor also assured his readiness to carry everybody along in the efforts to bring the dividends of democracy to the citizenry.
