Match-fixing: CAF probe Plateau United

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) are investigating allegations of match-fixing during a Confederation Cup playoff between Plateau United and USM Alger of Algeria.
Saturday’s match in Lagos ended 2-1 in favour of Plateau United.
South African referee Victor Gomes was reportedly approached to fix the result of the match, but rebuffed those advances and has reported the matter to CAF.
He and his assistants were approached before the game with an offer of $30,000 to fix the result, but they rejected it.
Head of refereeing in SAFA confirmed the incident and said CAF are now investigating it.
“Let us give CAF time and space to finish their investigations,” he said.
In the meantime, USMA have issued a press release in which they claimed the allegations were merely a smear campaign against them.
There is no official statement from Plateau United yet.
