The Minister of Environment, Mrs. Amina Mohammed has said that Nigeria is fully committed to meet her obligation to control climate change as stipulated in the nationally determined contributions.
She added that this would require a collective effort at both federal and state levels and also require full involvement, participation of all key stakeholders in actualising effective climate governance in the country.
Amina stated this recently during the stakeholder forum organised by National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) tagged “the National Regulatory Dialogue on the Implementation of Environmental Regulations,” in Abuja.
She added that this dialogue presents the different tiers of government with yet another unique opportunity to strengthen alliances and fine – tune strategies for environmental protection and sustainable development for the nation.
“The state environmental agencies or authorities should work closely with NESREA and we should stop operating in silos, begin to share our knowledge and experience, our data and information with one another so that together, we can achieve much more and make our environment safer and healthier,” she explained.
The Director-General of NESREA, Dr. Lawrence C. Anukam in his remarks said “the forum is for interaction, intellectual; to share knowledge and we should work to protect the environment. It is a collective responsibility not just for the private sector, is for everyone.”
He added, “There should be able to provide a platform for everyone and the responsibility of the manufacturer of a product ensure continuous management of that product you are buying when the product had left the shelf from a produce of a beverage, drink, have a responsibility beyond producing their drink.”
