Melaye: Forum condemns arrest, arraignment of 2 lawyers

Young Lawyers Forum, an affi liate body of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has condemned the recent arrest and arraignment of two of its me mbers, David Amaefula and Pius Udo-Inyang at the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Speaking with newsmen yesterday in Bauchi, the state chairman of the young lawyers forum, Barr Abbas Muazu, disclosed that the arrest of the two young lawyers, occurred on the 24th day of April 2018 when they were dispatched by their principal, Ricky Tarfa (SAN) to accompany the embattled Senator Dino Melaye at the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) office Guzape, Abuja.
He lamented that while at their duty post, men of the Nigeria police felt not at ease with the presence of these advocates and eventually arrested them using sheer corporal force. “At this juncture, every sound mind will want to know what the language of the nation’s modus operandi -the imperative constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is vis-a-vis the action of the men of the Nigeria police.” He said the police had claimed that the lawyers were arrested and being prosecuted for allegedly aiding Melaye to escape from lawful custody
