Methodist bishop urges citizens to join in tackling insecurity

    

Nigerians have been reminded that they have a critical role to play in ensuring unity and peace to enhance the socio-economic development of the country.

The Bishop of Kubwa Diocese, Methodist Church of Nigeria, Rt Rev. Chikwendu Igwe, stated this while speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the 9th Annual Synod of the Diocese with the theme: Watch and Pray, in Gwagwalada, a suburb of Abuja.

Bishop Igwe, who noted that there can be no meaningful development without peace, urged the government to provide enabling environment for citizens to contribute their quota in tackling insecurity.

He cautioned against politicising the security situation in the country, while calling on the government to squarely tackle insecurity and address the socio-economic challenges confronting the people.

The Bishop further emphasized the importance of prayer in seeking God’s intervention to the myriads of problems facing the nation and urged leaders to live exemplary lifestyle for others to emulate.   

Earlier, the lead lecturer Lady Offon Akpabio emphasized the need for the church to concentrate strongly in inculcating Godly virtues among youth as a legacy for subsequent generation to emulate.

She identified liberalism and social media nuisance as a threat to building a morally sound generation of youth, saying the church must rise to see that the youth grow and live in the fear of God.

She further emphasized the need for Nigerians, irrespective of their religion and ethnicity, to imbibe a culture of peace and unity.

Also speaking, the Lay President of the Diocese,  Engr. Kayode Opooshun, called on parents to live up to their responsibility of ensuring proper upbringing of their children.
