Jigawa state office of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) has said that it had spent well over N7.8 billion on the execution of various development social projects across the state from 2008 to 2012.
The permanent secretary, state Budget and Economic Planning Directorate, who is also the MGDs focal person, Alhaji Adamu Muhammad Garun Gabas, disclosed this yesterday during the bid opening for the 2013 MDGs projects in Dutse.
Gabas, who was represented by the Director of MDGs, Alhaji Aminu Adamu Ringim, said the MDGs Office was spending the sum of N64 million annually for safe motherhood initiative projects of the state government.
He said some of the projects executed by the MDGs in the state included construction of clinics in schools, drilling of solar-powered boreholes and drilling of hand-pumps across the state during the years under review.
According to him, the MDGs has constructed 120 Basic Health Clinics spread across the state, and that they also constructed VIP toilets in some schools and markets.
Our correspondent reports that over 200 construction companies participated in the bid opening, while the evaluation committee had begun its work to screen and release the successful companies within two weeks.
