Migration: Expert publishes 4 books on emerging trends

A professor of religion and president, Association for the Promotion of African Studies (APAS), Prof Kanu Ikechukwu Anthony, has published four books detailing the positive and negative effects of migration on Nigerian development, especially with regards to brain drain, brain gain, brain circulation, among others.

The co-authored books include: African Migration and Religion: Migrant Religion and Multi-Local Identifications (with Kanayo Nwadialor), African Migration and Development: Contexts, Problems and Perspectives (with Chiugo Kanu), African Migration and Philosophy: Between Cultural Bereavement and Identity (with Ejikemeuwa Ndubisi) and African Migration and Culture: Complex and Changing Relationships (with Nkechinyere Nwokoye) and were published by Lambert Academic Publishing in Mauritius.

Speaking about the books in an exclusive chat with Blueprint in Abuja Sunday, Kanu said the books are a product of a collection of papers presented at the international conference on migration and explores the relationship between migration and development Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He revealed that the concept of migration comes in different forms, as individuals, families or groups move from one place to another with the intention of settling, permanently or temporarily at a new location, but with the onerous objective of achieving greener pastures.

He said: “In establishing the link between migration and the issue of development, which is at the heart of these books, questions have arisen as regards the reason for migration. While it might not be all the reasons for migration, human migration has been fundamentally linked to the human desire to seek decent employment and livelihoods.
“This connection is recognized by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which provides for a strong link between decent work and migration in Sustainable Development Goal. This work is a collection of papers presented at the International Conference on ‘Migration and the Identity Question in a Modern World’, organized by the Association for the Promotion of African Studies. It remains a fundamental document as regards the relationship between migration and development.”
