Military kill 20 terrorists in northern Borno

Troops of 130 Battalion with the support of Army Super Camp in Baga, have killed 20 Boko haram/ Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters during a fierce battle at North-west axis of Baga town in Northern Borno state.

Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. John Enenche said in a statement that the offensive took place on 17 May 2020.

He said the terrorists aimed  with mortars, rocket propelled grenades and small arms were heading to attack villages neighbouring village along Baga, when the troops attacked their convoy “with overwhelming fire power” killing 20 of the  terrorists.”

“However, nine of our gallant soldiers were wounded in action with no loss of life. They were evacuated to Sector 3 hospital for treatment,” Enenche said.

According to him, the troops captured six AK 47 Rifles, 520 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and five 36 hand grenades during the encounter.

He said the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai had commended the “gallant troops for their professionalism and directs them to remain resolute towards eradicating the criminals from the North East.”
