Military ‘ll continue to safeguard nation’s economic assets – CDS

The Nigerian Armed Forces will continue to protect the nation’s economic assets and provide secure and safe environment for businesses to strive in the country.

The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Abayomi Olonisakin, gave the assurance Tuesday when he received the Group Managing Director, National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mr Mele Kolo Kyari, at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja.

The Defence Chief said the military would also sustain its collaboration with the NNPC in safeguarding Nigeria’s national economic infrastructures in the area of oil and gas.

He said the military would sustain its code-named “Operation AWATSE”, launched to tackle the menace of pipeline vandalism in South-West Nigeria, amongst other criminal activities, as well as the ongoing “Operation DELTA SAFE” in the South-South region of the country.

Earlier, the NNPC DMG commended the military for providing a more secured environment for the organisation to carry out its functions in the petroleum industry.

Kyari said his visit was necessary considering the important role the military has been playing in curtailing the activities of pipeline vandals and saboteurs of the nation’s key national economic infrastructure.

He said the military has continued to carry out its constitutional mandate, and  has created “the much needed safe environment for NNPC to conduct petroleum operations for the benefit of all Nigerians.”
