Military to unveil 1st indigenous tactical vehicle July 6

The Defence Industries Corporation (DICON) and the Nigerian Army
Vehicle Manufacturing Company (NAVMC) Kaduna will unveil the first
indigenous light Tactical Vehicle jointly produced by the
organisations.

Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai said this Thursday while
some new combat vehicles produced by the NAVMC in conjunction with
DICON, in Rigachukwu, Kaduna state.

He said the collaboration between the two organisations is yielding
positive result with the production of indigenous military equipment
including vehicles and weapons, which he said would go a long way in
curtailing insecurity in the country.

“I know everybody is concern about insecurity, but unfortunately over
the years since 1960s we have not made any serious headway in local
Defence production. If this one takeoff as we envisage we will no
longer cry of insecurity, God’s willing,” he said.

The army chief said the DICON, a civil-driven establishment under the
Ministry of Defence, would soon be turn around by the new
Director-General, Maj. Gen. Victor Ezugwu, who resume recently at his
new appointment.

Maj. Gen. Ezugwu was, until his recent appointment, the Group Managing
Director of the NAVMC.

The army chief, accompanied by some principal staff officers from the
Army Headquarters Abuja, the Director General of DICON and other
senior officers serving in Kaduna state, also test run Light Combat
Vehicle and Light Tactical vehicles produced by the organisations, and
inspected the improvement on the locally produced mine- sweeper. He
also inspected some equipment at the company’s production plant.
