Mini secondary schools sports festival begins in Kaduna

No fewer than 25 secondary schools across Kaduna are participating in the 4th edition of the mini sports festival in the state.

The festival is organised by the Youths Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) in collaboration with Coach Felix Academics and Sports Foundation.

The event commenced on July 4, at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna and will end on July 6.

The Coach, Felix Oseibe, who spoke with NAN in an interview on Thursday, said that the competition was to discover talented athletes to represent the state during the next national youth games at the University of Ilorin.

He said the foundation will groom and nurture the participants for future Championships.

” This is our way of contributing and giving back to the state, by discovering, developing and nurturing the youth for competitions.

” Sports is a great way for children to learn essential skills that will serve them in life, such as teamwork, time management, goal setting and planning.”

He however said that the use of mercenaries will not be tolerated as every participant will be duly screened.

Oseibe, added that the events to be competed in the under- 15 category included: 100m, 200m, 400m, Long jump, Short put, 4x100m mixed , 4x400m mixed, Chess, Scrabble, Table tennis, Badminton and Football.

Those above 15 will compete in 100m, 400m, 800m, 4x100m mixed, Javelin and Discuss.(NAN)
