Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige Wednesday said he remain committed to working with all the labour unions, stating that with his experience which made the president to return him to the ministry, he and the minister of state would ensure workers start enjoying the N30 000 minimum wage soon.
Ngige who was speaking during a reception at his resident, said his return to the ministry is to address some urgent issues begging for attention.
He said the two non teaching staff in the university are on strike and there is need to take urgent steps to address the issues.
He said with his experience in the last three and a half years, the issues would be dealt with properly.
“I remain committed to working with the labour unions. The NLC is a federation of some labour unions and you have other federations. We have the Trade Union Congress and we also have United Labour Congress which has not been officially registered. There are some unions that are there.
“We have about 18 unions. The only reason why we have not registered them is because the unions are not brand new and the law says you must have 12 brand new unions. But they are working, so, I am committed to working with the labour unions and labour federations.’’
