Governor-elect of Oyo state, Engr Seyi Makinde has asked the out-going administration of governor Isiaka Ajimobi to forget about its proposed discussion on the implementation of new minimum wage with the labour unions in the state.
The state Commissioner for Information, Tourism and Culture Mr Toye Arulogun had on Friday disclosed that the out going administration in the state will this Monday open discussion with the labour unions on the implementation of the newly approved N30,000 minimum wage.
However, the state governor elect in a statement made available to journalists on his behalf by Prince Dotun Oyelade warned the out going administration in the state against going ahead with its planned negotiation on the implementation of the newly approved minimum wage
Engr Makinde “queried the intention and sincerity of the outgoing government to open negotiation with the labour unions on the implementation of N30,000 minimum wage in Oyo state on Monday which will be exactly 30 days to the exit of the out going administration in the state.
“There is nothing the lame duck government wants to achieve other than to complicate things for the In-Coming government in exactly the same manner. it is doing in awarding fresh contracts and rolling out largesse to fellow politicians and friends.” he said.
The governor elect however expressed his readiness for ” a progressive relationship with the new NLC exco in Oyo state led by Comrade Bayo Titilola Sodo, Engineer Makinde .
Engr Makinde also cautioned against any booby traps in the planned negotiation by the outgoing government, stressing that he was satisfied with the level of rapport he had with the NLC during and after the election and hope that this will be maintained as the new NLC executive assumes the mantle of leadership.
According to the governor elect, there will be no going back in his commitment to ensure that nothing short of the interest of workers will be acceptable to his administration.
