Mining stakeholders want end to double taxation

Meanwhile, at the stakeholders meeting in Rivers state, stakeholders decried the double taxation in the state.

Second National Vice President of Miners Association of Nigeria (MAN) Kennedy Enebeli revealed that the major mining activities in Rivers state are sand dredging and quarrying, he however said operators in the state are hemorrhaging under the yoke of multiple regulations, controls and taxation by various agencies of the tiers of government and the host communities.

He appealed to the ministry to help find solution to the challenge, as it requires an urgent resolution for the efforts of the ministry to yield the desired results as businesses will continue to thrive.

The minister in his remarks described sand dredging in Rivers state as synonymous to gold; saying that with the level of sand filling and dredging going on in the state, lots of revenue would be generated if operators do the right thing.

He therefore, enjoined operators to register with the Miners Association of Nigeria for proper identification as miners while stressing the need for synergy between the federal, state and local governments for increased revenue generation.
