Minister advises Mpape community on communicable diseases

The Minister of State for Health, Dr Khaliru Alhassan, has advised Mpape community in FCT to collaborate with the ministry to eradicate communicable diseases in Bwari Area Council.

A press statement issued by the Deputy Director, Press, Mr Clement Egbama, quoted Dr. Alhassan saying the exercise was a demonstration of the ministry’s commitment and concern for the plight of the people of Mpape and FCT in general.
The Minister who made the call at the launch of the fumigation exercise as part of the activities to mark the World Health Day in Abuja, stressed the need for traditional leaders, chiefs and the community to collaborate with the Federal Government in ensuring a disease-free environment.

The statement stated that the traditional ruler of Mpape, Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim, appreciated the support and timely intervention of the minister, and promised to encourage his people to take preventive measures to forestall further outbreak of the disease.
He called on the Federal Government to provide portable water and expand the existing primary health centre, which was grossly inadequate for the over two million people living in the community.

It stated that the Project Director, National Centre for Disease Control, Prof. Abdulsalami Nasir, had warned that dirty environment breed diseases, also quoting him as saying that, “individuals play key role in riding their environment of diseases.

“This could be achieved by maintaining healthy toilet practise, proper washing of hands and eating hygienically prepared food.”
