Minister assures corps members of adequate security

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members were yesterday assured of adequate security within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Addressing corps members during the swearing in ceremony of the 2018 batch ‘B’ corps members for the three weeks orientation in Kubwa, the FCT Minister, Alhaji Mohammad Musa Bello, said his administration prioritize the security of life and properties with the territory.
He pointed the attention of the corps members to the fact that the federal government has recently banned the promotion and advertisement on all tobacco products in all the stadia and NYSC orientation camps, hence, they should adher and stay out of such products throughout their service year in the FCT.
Bello who was represented by the Secretary, Social Development and Chairman NYSC FCT governing board, Alhaji Olademeji Ali Hassan, said: “As leaders of tomorrow, you have quite a herculean task ahead of you.
To be in the vanguard, demands self discipline and sacrifices.
You must eschew all social vices which have long been identified as the most critical impediment on our development process.
“Be rest assured that this administration appreciates the tremendous potentials of our youths as a hub for accelerating economy to greater heights.
This therefore explains our unrelenting emphasis on innovative activities that will maximize the development of our youth.” He also urged the corps members to shun all forms of social vices including hate speech and giving of false information.
The state coordinator, Mr.
Ballama Birniwa, said 2916 Corps members comprising of 1,160 male and 1,885 female took the oath.
He assures corps members that adequate arrangement has been made for their welfare, safety and security in camp.
“Even though you may find life on camp slightly different, our standard rules of engagement anchored on the tenet of discipline, tolerance, perseverance, diligence and mutual co-existence are never to be compromised.
“Therefore I urge you to demonstrate a high sense of morality and obey official directives.
Be security conscious and report every suspicious character and movement to the security personnel or camp officials to ensure prompt attention,” he said.
He revealed that Linda Angela Igwetu, a 23 years old female corps member that was shot by a policeman in the FCT recently will be buried in Lagos tomorrow.
Ballama said NYSC will be handling the burial responsibility, as it cares about all corps members.
The deceased, was reportedly shot around 3am, a day before her passing out of the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) programme.
