Minister of Water Resources, Mrs. Sarah Reng Ochekpe, has urged media practitioners to desist from negative and sensational journalism that would hinder the achievement of the Transformation Agenda of the present administration.
Speaking at a strategic consultative workshop with women in media and communication, in Abuja recently, she said “to foster a conducive environment for good governance, politics must be played in a friendly manner devoid of rancour.”
A statement issued by a press officer in the ministry, Mr Attari Hope, said: “Women participation in politics is in sharp contrast with their male counterpart. Men heat up politics by their inordinate ambition of winning elections at all times, while women on the other hand approach politics differently by embracing partnership.”
She called on women to propagate their agenda by partnering with women journalists, stressing the need for them to strive to sustain the various achievements of the present administration.
Earlier, PDP National Women Leader, Dr Kema Chikwe, the host of the workshop, said it became necessary to organise such workshop due to the negative perspective of the role of women in nation building.
According to her, women are always presented through traditional media such as TV, radio and newspapers as just homemakers or objects of sexual desire.
