Minister lauds Sokoto electorate over Buhari’s victory

The Minister of Trade and Investment, Hajiya Aisha Abubakar, has commended the electorate of Sokoto state for the support they gave President Muhammadu Buhari  and the APC in the just-concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections. 

Speaking soon after casting her vote at her ward of  Rigiya Dorowa B, Government House, Sokoto, the mMinister expressed optimism in the ultimate victory of the president and the APC in the whole of the elections.

In the results announced at the end of polling at the ward, votes counted gave President Buhari 34,927 votes and 26,287 votes for his closest rival, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the PDP.

Hajiya Aisha Abubakar attributed the APC victory to the general performance of President Buhari, the records and impacts of his administrations in Sokoto state, the massive support from the women voters, who, she noted, turned out in unprecedented numbers at the Presidential and National Assembly polls.

While thanking the electorate in Sokoto in general and the women specifically for their support for President Buhari, the minister enjoined people of the state to sustain the momentum in the forthcoming elections with the assurance that the second term of the president will usher in the full benefits of his several development programmes already initiated for the state and the entire country.

Hajiya Aisha Abubakar also expressed satisfaction with the peaceful atmosphere under which the election was conducted in the state and urged the people to eschew violence and other acts that go against the electoral laws, security and tranquility.

Results collated and released by INEC in 9 of the 23 local government areas as at Monday evening in Sokoto state show Buhari’s APC leading with 188, 237 votes with Atiku Abubakar’s PDP trailing with a total of 118, 415 votes.
