Minister tasks legal practitioners to embrace STI

Minister of State for Science and Technology, Barr Mohammed Abdullahi has enjoined legal practitioners to adopt technology and innovation in streamlining judicial procedures.

Abdullahi gave the charge when the executives of the Abuja branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) paid a courtesy call on him in his office, Thursday.

Abdullahi further said his ministry was working with its education counterpart to develop application to enhance virtual proceedings in courts and allow for tendering of documentary evidence electronically.

The minister said the legal profession is critical to science, technology and innovation, adding that scientific inventions and innovations could only be patented through the instrument of law so as to ensure effective protection of intellectual property.

He, therefore, called for greater collaboration between the ministry and the Nigerian Bar Association.

Earlier, chairman of the NBA branch, Hauwa Shekarau said the essence of their visit was to extend pleasantries with the minister as well as seek collaboration for mutual benefits.

She described the minister as a patriot who believes in service to the country and humanity.
