Ministry to spend N1.72bn on Climate change in 2019

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has set aside N1.72 billion for land and climate change management.

The sum is contained in the approved budget of the Ministry from the overall 2019 capital expenditure of N107.22 billion.

Aside, the ministry also got N2.27 billion for the National Grazing Reserve Development proposed by the National Executive Council (NEC) in 2018.

Ultimately, the interventions are expected to address climate change impacts on agriculture, rural livelihood and pastoralism.

Beyond that, it is assumed the efforts would reduce the incidents of farmers/herders clashes which reportedly claimed scores of lives in recent years.

In terms of agricultural financing, the Ministry is to spend over N15.66 billion for Promotion and Development of Value Chains in more than 30 different commodities

According to the budget, “N2 billion Support For Infrastructure, Projects and Coordination Services, N2.01 billion for Veterinary and Pest Control Services, N6.90 billion for Rural Roads And Water Sanitation and N1.09 billion for Mechanization.

“N1.27 billion for Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprise (Life) Programme, N2.01 billion for Food and Strategic Reserves, N2.49 billion for Agribusiness and Market Development, N2.09 billion for Extension Services, and N1.03 billion for GES – Delivery Platform, Roll-out and Management.
