The Fourth Estate Professional Society (FPS) has raised fresh alarm concerning the life of Tordue Salem, a missing Journalist, whose sudden dissapearance in Abuja a few days ago caused a stir in the Journalism community.
The body has therefore warned the Federal Government that the missing Journalist must not die, charging the police and other security agencies to intensify efforts at unraveling his sudden disappearance in the line of duty.
Salem, a Vanguard Correspondent attached to the National Assembly’s whereabout became an issue three days ago when he was announced missing by his family and colleagues on the beat.
Worried by the development, FPS in a statement signed by Kehinde Osasona and Emmanuel Ekwe, the Abuja Chapter Chairman and Secretary respectively, reiterated the need for the police and other security agencies to swing into action in search of the Journalist before the unthinkable happen.
Journalists in Nigeria and globally by extension according to the FPS has remained an endanger specie, saying government should do everything humanly possible to protect them.
The statement reads in part: ” Here we are again. In broad day light, a Journalist got missing in the country’s capital and nothing has been heard of him, worst still no one has claimed responsibility yet.
“Our fears is against the backdrop of growing cases of missing people who never returned to the warm embrace of their families and the distress the family and relatives is going through at present.
” Again, the missing Journalist in question is covering a very sensitive beat like politics and politicians who never liked ‘gutsy’ Journalists,”
The FPS has therefore given the security agencies 48 hours to bring back Tordue alive so that he can reunite with his family.
The body has equally charged the duo of Mr Chris Isiguzo, President, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and Dr Babatunde Salami, President Fourth Estate Professional Society (FPS) to work together and put the authority concerned on their toes so as to ensure a safe return of the colleague in question.
