Mixed reactions from the non-governmental organisations (NGO) has trailed the submission of ministerial lists for confirmation by President Buhari Muhammudu to the Senate.
The Executive Director of the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) Auwal Musa (Rafsanjani) said many Nigerians are shocked to see some names still appearing on the list especially as the President is trying to fight corruption.
According to him, some of these ministers are on the watch list of alleged misconduct and corrupt practices.
He also said the perception Nigerians have is that the ministers are either not capable of providing the necessary leadership dealing with the affairs of responsibility given to them or that they are not progressive enough.
He said the new names of ministers which was not in the first tenure shows that they have the professional capacity and they are well known in their discipline if placed in relevant ministries.
In his words ?It is possible they can bring the necessary leadership and good governance that are needed in terms of providing leadership in the ministries that will be assigned to them.
He advised the senate that they should confirm the names and the names should be interrogated and checked to know who should be confirmed .
Also, the Executive Director of CLEEN foundation Dr Benson Olugbuo said the nomination is a welcome development although Nigerians expected the list before now.
He said they hoped the ministers will have portfolios attached to them before going for Senate confirmations, adding that “it should not be business as usual and we really want to follow the proceedings at the National Assembly”.
On the non inclusion of youth on the ministerial list, Senior Programme Officer ,Youth Department, YIAGA Africa, Ibrahim Faruk, expressed concern that despite publicly proclaiming that the young people were now set to leave their mark on the political space, they were surprised that President Buhari did not consider any of them in his cabinet.
