Miyetti-Allah demands compensation over killings

The umbrella body of Fulani herdsmen known as Miyetti-Allah Cattle Breeders Association has demanded, amongst others, for compensation for families of those allegedly killed by men of the Nigerian Army in Keana, Nasarawa state, recently.
The association made the demands at a press conference in Abuja.
According to its General Secretary in Nasarawa state, Alhaji Mohammed Husseini, “we demand adequate compensation to the families of those killed and maimed.”

He said: “A holistic and unrestricted inquiry be conducted into the circumstances that led to the massacre of our people. The perpetrators should be identified and prosecuted appropriately.
“The soldiers met a group of people who were there on a condolence visit and opened fire on them, killing most of them and maiming many others. The soldiers grabbed the women by their arms, twisted and broke them. They left the women writhing in pains.”

Also speaking, the association’s national secretary, Alhaji Baba Usman Ngelzama, said the action of the military amounted to genocide.
He said: “This is simply genocide and we cannot allow this one to be swept under the carpet. We are aware there is an on-going propaganda against the Fulani by ascribing to us crimes we neither commit nor know anything about.”
The association called for the immediate withdrawal of the military from the affected communities of the crisis.
“The presence of the Army is unnecessary as it appears their mission is not to safeguard lives of citizens, but to eliminate them.”
