MJTF troops kill 47 ISWAP terrorists in Lake Chad Island, military base

Troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MJTF) in collaboration with national forces have killed 42 Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists during a clearance operation in Dogo Naira, an Island in Lake Chad.

They also killed five ISWAP terrorists while one was captured when the terrorists tried attempted to attack MNJTF troops in Sector 1 Foward Operation Base (FOB) in Ngouma in Cameroon early this week.

This is one of the heaviest casualties suffered by the terrorists hibernating in the area within six months.

Spokesperson of the MJTF, Col. Timothy Antigha, said in a statement that several of the terrorists also escaped with gunshot wound during the continuation of operation YANCI TAFKi which took place at 6am on Friday June 21, 2019 at Dogo Naira.

The troops also destroyed two gun trucks, three motorcycles, but recovered two light machine gun and two AK 47 rifles during the operations.

“Unfortunately, the MNJTF lost a soldier while 10 others were wounded in Action. The affected soldiers have been evacuated accordingly,” Antigha said.

He said ISWAP also lost 13 AK 47 riffles and 2 hand grenades during the operation at Ngouma, Cameroun.

“The MNJTF also conducted air interdictions in Arege and Malkorony. Several terrorists are suspected to have been killed as the Headquarters and logistics base of a top ISWAP commander, Abu Talib was targeted in that operation,” Antigha said.
