The Coalition of Civil Society Network (CCSN), a Zamfara state-based none governmental organisation, has petitioned the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Zamfara state command over what it described as the “molestation and intimidation” of one Bello Aliyu Shatan Zamfara, allegedly beaten by officers and men of the command on civil matter reported in Gusau area office of the agency.
The petition, dated 2nd January, and copied Zamfara state Police Commissioner, Director SSS, state Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Nigeria Legal Aid Council, among others was signed by the chairman of the coalition, Anas Sani Anka and made available to Blueprint in Gusau the state capital yesterday.
It alleged that, on the 29th of December, one officer Shehu Maigemu of the NSCDC Zamfara state command, invited the victim to Gusau area office for interrogation on allegation of defamation of character and malicious claims against one Ummakhani, a resident of Gusau, “but instead of questioning the complainant and record his statement as the rule stipulated, the officers went ahead and molested the victim to an extent he was badly beaten and sustained serious degree of injury on his face and part of his body while the same Lady Ummukhani watched with passion.”
“The complainant has currently sustained serious injury on the head and cannot hear from the left side of his ear and cannot eat due to frequent vomiting he has suffered and we await to see the action to be taken by Zamfara state NSCDC command,” it stated.
The group gave Zamfara NSCDC state command one week to set up investigation on the matter or they would drag the agency to court for enforcement of the fundamental rights to dignity of the complainant.
