More than 300 business leaders, others expected at AEC 2019

The Chief Executive Officer of the African Economic Congress (AEC), Mrs Nancy Nnaji Monday said more than 300 business leaders and other stakeholders across the African continent will exchange ideas and discuss critical topics at this years’ annual meeting.

Addressing the press in Abuja, Mrs Nnaji said this year’s meeting will put the focus on “Building the Africa We Want” as it is a new platform to shape a new framework for Africa’s cooperation.

The AEC boss stated that the congress will “focus on the strategic ramifications of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and its future impact global cooperation and the African industrial revolution.”

During the sessions, she explained that participants will also engage in an in-depth dialogue with a number of international financial institutions, economic stakeholders, among others in order to review the development and adoption of policies and mechanisms for the engagement and effective participation of peoples.

On his part, a member of the AEC Board and former deputy governor of the Central Bnak of Nigeria (CBN) Dr Obadiah Mailafia said it was time for Africans to work as a team to liberate the continent economically and not wait anyone else from another continent to do so.

He said Africans should stop chasing shadows and face the reality as the promise and hope lies with the Africans despite numerous challenges.

The 2019 AEC meeting to proffer solutions to continental issues has been scheduled for the 4-6 November, in Abuja.
