Mother of 4 escapes kidnappers’ den

A widow, Enobong Effiom Joseph, who was abducted with her four little children on November 19, in Calabar, has escaped the kidnappers den in Aba, Abia state,
She, however, was unable to escape with her four children: Elijah, Promise, 3; Samuel, 2; and an 8-month5 -old Moses.

Blueprint Weekend learnt that Enobong and her children were allegedly abducted by a kidnap gang, led by one Glory Asuquo a.k.a Mma-Akamba and taken to an unknown destination in Aba.

The traumatised victim said Glory was her primary school classmate and that they lost contact many years ago before she resurfaced on to carry out the nefarious deed on that fateful Sunday.

Enobong, who expressed the fears that she might not see her four children again, told Blueprint that she met Glory on Saturday, Nov 18 and: “The next day, while I was preparing to go to Church, Mma-Akamba arrived with another girl and one other man who she introduced as her husband. They said they would drop us off in Church.

“We entered Keke (tricycle) to go out of our bad Esit Ebom Street in Calabar South. When we reached the main road, we saw a black jeep with a driver waiting.

“We entered the vehicle and after a while, they diverted to Murtala Highway and I started getting nervous. I asked her where she was taking us to and she told me her husband wanted to pick something at home.
“I became suspicious and started challenging her to stop and drop us.

The men overpowered me and robbed a powdery substance on us to induced sleep. While my children were fast asleep in seconds, I was drowsy and before I knew what was happening, we were in Aba.

In Aba, they took us to one hospital where a man took our blood samples. I was, thereafter, separated from my children and put into another vehicle. They drove me to a village I identified as Itak in Akwa Ibom state.

“At midnight, while everybody was asleep, I summed up all my strength
and ran away, wandering into another compound where I told the owners
of that family my story.

Blueprint gathered that as at the time of filling this report, Glory and her daughter were cooling their heels at the Diamond Hills Police station in Calabar, Cross River state, where she and her children were kidnapped.
The Police Public Relation Officer, ASP Irene Ugbo, who confirmed the
report in a chat with our reporter, said the suspect, Glory, was picked up two days ago and that investigations were ongoing. She said plans were underway to rescue the missing four children.
