Much ado about statues, By Falila


Who in Nigeria hasn’t heard about the two statues erected earlier in the week? One in Lagos state and the other in Imo state.

While the former, which is the statue of the late Nigerian music legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti, erected to commemorate his posthumous birthday on Sunday October 15, 2017, at Allen Avenue Roundabout, was widely applauded by the masses (even though it’s a headless statue of the legend, as in it had no head! Sigh.

President, Jacob Zuma, was the exact opposite, as the Imo state Governor Rochas Okorocha received serious backlash from many Nigerians who couldn’t understand the reason behind his erecting the statue of another country’s president, who they believe hasn’t done anything to deserve such honour.
