Murder: Man bags death sentence for killing Uber driver

Obinna Echanu, was Thursday sentenced to death by hanging by an FCT High Court in Abuja for killing an Uber driver, known as Edwin Ali.

The accused person was charged alongside one Everly Nnerun for allegedly conspiring to kill Ali on December 26th, 2016 along the Abuja airport road.

Their charges include armed robbery, illegal possession, conspiracy, of firearms and culpable homicide.

While delivering his judgment, Justice Peter Kekemeke discharged and acquitted Nnerun for lack of evidence by the Nigerian Police.

However, Echanu was not spared as he was sentenced to death by hanging as his counsel failed to prove his innocence before the court.

“The first defendant is therefore sentenced to death by hanging on each of the counts,” Justice Kekemeke held.

The judge also ordered that Sienna car and the magnum revolver gun recovered from the convict be forfeited to the Federal Government.

He ordered that the deceased person’s phone recovered from him should be returned to his family.
