Murder of wife: Hubby knows fate tomorrow

Justice Lateefat Okunnu of Lagos High Court, Ikeja, has fixed February 21, to deliver judgement in the case of alleged murder filed against Akolade Arowolo, charged with stabbing his banker wife, Titilayo, to death.

The date was contained in a Hearing Notice, issued to the prosecuting and defence counsels.
The date had been communicated to the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), and Arowolo’s counsel, Mr.Olarenwaju Ajanaku.
Arowolo was arraigned on December 21, 2011, before Justice Lateefat Okunnu, on a one-count charge of murder.

The Lagos state DPP, Olabisi Ogungbesan, had alleged that the accused murdered his wife Titilayo, a banker on June 24, 2011, at his residence, No. 8, Akindeinde Street, Isolo, Lagos.
The deceased’s relatives, including her father, Mr. George Oyakhire, and her step-mother, Mrs Adetoun Oyakhire, had testified that Arowolo’s marriage was characterised by domestic violence.

Another witness, Prof. John Obafunwa, a Consultant Pathologist and Chief Medical Examiner of Lagos state, who conducted the post mortem also testified that the late banker was stabbed 76 times.
The accused, who testified on May 22, 2013, however, denied the allegation.
