Muslim community demands hijab use in Ogun schools

Ogun state Muslim community, yesterday asked the state government to allow female in all public schools in the state to use Muslim head cover otherwise known as hijab.
Th e community comprising Muslim Students Society of Nigeria , Ogun Area Unit and League of Imams and Alfas, made the demand yesterday in Abeokuta shortly after the inauguration of Muslim Students Parents Forum in the state.
Th e Forum, which was held at the Egba Central Mosque had in attendance the chairman, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Aff airs, Sheikh Abdur-Rasheed Mayaleke, Secretary of the League, Sheikh, Tajudeen Adewunmi, National President, National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations, (NACOMYO), Kamaldeen Akintunde, former National Coordinator of Dawah Front of Nigeria, Dr.
Rabiu Kushimo and the Ameer of MSSN,B zone, Mushafau Alaran, among others.
Th ey urged the government to release a circular mandating the school heads to allow Muslim female students in public schools the use of their head covers on the school uniforms.
While expressing their grievances over the alleged prevention of Hijab by their female children in public schools, some parents lamented that most of the school principals and teachers, allegedly molested any female student found using the head cover .
One of the parents, Mrs.
Saidat Adegoroye, cited examples of some female students, who were molested at Ilugun High School, Asero High School among others , saying it was high time the Muslim community in the state stood against the alleged molestation and harassment of the students by school heads.
In his opening address, Adewunmi urged the gathering to join hands and be united in fi ghting against the alleged victimisation, stressing that the Constitution of the country permitted freedom of religion.
He said: “We should be allowed to use hijab in schools, they have the rights to use it, why preventing them from using it? It is part of the religion.
We must join hands to say no to the victimisation”.
