Muslim lawyers free 8 inmates in Yobe

Eight inmates serving different jail terms at the Potiskum Medium Security Prison got their freedom yesterday following the visit by the Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria, Yobe state chapter.
Led by the state chairman, Barrister Mustapha Wakil, the Muslim lawyers visited the security prison and were received by the Assistant Controller in charge of the Prison, Mallam Abdulameed B. Shehu, and briefed him about their mission and the objectives of the association.
The association paid N81, 000 to settle fines for the eight inmates. Blueprint gathered that, Malam Danjuma Garba, who is serving a life term jail, the association donated N20, 000 to him, as he is suffering from heart problem.
Speaking to newsmen, the chairman called on the federal government and non-governmental organisations to come to the aid of the inmates and prison officers by rehabilitating their offices and other structures of the prison that have become dilapidated.
Responding, the Assistant Controller in charge of the prison, Mallam Abdulhameed B. Shehu, expressed gratitude to the association for its support and contribution to inmates, pointing out that the gesture would go a long way in assisting the inmates.
He appealed to other associations to emulate the Muslims lawyers.
