We must unite to curb insecurity – CNS

As the country faces several challenges, Nigerians must stand united with the federal government to confront the current national security threats, the Chief of Naval Staff , Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas has said. The Naval chief said this in his goodwill message at the Juma’at Prayer on the occasion of 2018 Navy week.
He said with hard work and determination from all sectors of the country and the citizenry the country would surmount the present security challenges. “May I seize this opportunity also to reiterate that as we strive together towards achieving the transformation agenda of this administration, it must emphasise that security is the key to its overall attainment,” he said. The Naval chief said though the naval leadership was not unaware of the some constraints to the operations of the service, it is doing everything possible to solving them, as well as improving on the welfare of personnel.
“The Nigerian Navy transformation plan is anchored on the Vision to emplace a navy that is adequately motivated and capable to effectively combating security challenges in Nigeria’s maritime domain,” he said. “Dear brothers and sisters, I am also aware of the constraints to our operations as well as the myriads of welfare problems facing you in the NN. In this regard I am delighted to state that improving welfare has remained the cornerstone of my administration as demonstrated in the numerous welfare and administrative projects in various stages of completion across the various commands and establishments.” Ibas commended the personnel of the service for their efforts and sacrifice in the fight against insurgency and economic sabotage, in order “to maintain the peace and unity of our dear nation.”
“As we celebrate the Navy Week, I take the opportunity to remind you of your sacred duty to continue to remain committed to the defence of your country,” he said. “On the part of the leadership, you can count on the fact that we would remain unwavering in the pursuit of necessary enablement to fi re you up for the optimisation of your output. “It is a covenant that we are bound to, that we are determined to realise, and for which we converge here to seek the face of Allah. “I therefore urge you to continue, collectively and individually, to conduct yourselves and discharge your duties with highest sense of integrity, team work and professionalism.” “I urge us all to spare a moment to pray for all our colleagues in the Armed Forces, wherever they may be. We must also spare a moment for those of our colleagues who have paid the supreme sacrifice within the past year and ask the Almighty Allah to grant their souls a peaceful repose.”
