My late wife was a victim of ‘quack doctors’-Oshiomhole

Former governor of Edo State and National chairman of All Progressives Congress, (APC) Comrade Adams Oshiomhole Thursday lamented how wrong diagnosis at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital caused the death of his wife Clara in 2010.

The former Edo governor said this at the 46th Founders’ Day anniversary/lunching of $7million  endowment fund of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).

Ex-Head of State, Yakubu Gown and his wife, Victoria chaired the event.

According to Oshiomhole, “I witnessed many cases that touched my heart; including how I lost my wife.

“If it was another terrain, I would have gone to court because I think she was a victim of quack medical doctors.

“You visit a hospital, one doctor is a psychologist, gynaecologist, pathologist and he treats anything more than a local doctor in my village.

“And my wife was unfortunate and was so diagnosed of having something different while the cancer in her breast was growing,” he stated.

Continuing, the governor said: “All these can be prevented by government, providing robust regulations so that people treats patients only in the aspect they have competence.”

He however pledged to convey the hospital’s needs to president Buhari to ensure that money is appropriated.

Oshiomhole praised the hospital for its swift response to emergency cases “without asking for deposit”.

The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of UBTH, Prof. Darlington Obaseki urged members of the public to visit the hospital early to increase the chances of patients survival.

Obaseki explained that the hospital is reputed for the first successful sterm cell transplant and In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)  in Nigeria.
