‘My Plan is to help increase production with new initiative’

In this interview, Engr. Terfa Addingi, an innovator, tells BINTA SHAMA that nobody can build quality machines for Nigeria but Nigerians themselves.
Like I mentioned to you earlier in one of our discussions, I will never fail to refresh your memory about my person, passion and what I know how to do best.
As a person I have always had interest in creating stuff and nothing seems impossible to me.
The length of the project As an industrial designer, I designed this machine and present it for use.
Like you know from past record, the present innovation started just to avoid unnecessary expenses we might incur from the proposed project to avoid unnecessary spending and as well save a lot of cash for other projects.
The designing of this machine is to do several other blocks we may need or even sell at a larger scale, though like you know that I am more into producing agricultural machineries but decided to venture into something new outside the league of agriculture adding more value to the nation.
Though at the stage of design now, I am done to the extent of using the machinery to produce blocks but will be totally through by the time I get it automated.
I was supposed to be over and done with this work since before September but due to one issue or the other, I could not meet up as planned with the completion of the design because the client was in a hurry for production and needed to meet up with deadline.
I on the other hand, did not want to end up with a bad result due to the urgent need and request.
If I had gotten the job as planned, I would have made a lot of good profit but at this juncture it will interest you to know that all hope is not lost because the machine can still be sold used or for other projects alike.
The machine has already been moved to my site and it is all done and in use, I am using it for my personal project, I In this interview, Engr.
Terfa Addingi, an innovator, tells BINTA SHAMA that nobody can build quality machines for Nigeria but Nigerians themselves.
Addingi can produce the blocks at the site anytime, though it is no longer in use for the purpose of the project but it is available to run other things which equates no waste or regrets.
It is manually used with the help of hydrolic which is an essential a powerful ingredient in the use of any kind of machinery.
It is yet to be automated as initially proposed.
My plan was to automate it so as to make work easier within a short period of time.
I had the basic idea of what I have always wanted like taking away the labour of draining it the block unlike the one done manually which takes time and dries up on its own.
Challenges We already know the challenges faced in Nigeria when it comes to project which is nothing other than funding but for me I leave an opened mind to avoid getting disappointed.
I initially mounted the machine in Deidei market to avoid travelling from one end of Abuja to the other to purchase items for the machine and back to my site to enable me cut time, cost, and energy.
Having it back then in Deidei sustained my time and extra expenses; I purchased the available they had in the market and come up with a concept that would fit in.
I do not go beyond my capacity or means.
Cost The cheapest so far found of these interlocking tiles in the market is N2,500 per square metre; some even sell up to N2,600 and N2,800 per square metre.
But mine goes for N2,300 to N2,400 with a high quality, very properly compressed block, hard like a rock.
I am producing this machine that will give you the finished product in less than a minute compared to that of the manual machine that could take up to an hour.
It is a whole new automated system which will produce more and faster at the interval of 30seconds compared to that of the manual that could take almost an hour, so you can imagine the very big gap between them.
Though it is already invented over 50years back but I am giving it a high quality touch that would be stress free to use.
My aim is to put my product out there to ease the lives of people within our community and as well help increase production with my new initiative.
It is like a business venture for me because it is an invention that will not only produce but will be easy to dispose its products.
I am doing it in an open ground to inspire people to make them know we have intelligent Nigerians.
Lastly, you will permit me to say that the earlier Nigerians recognise that no one can build quality machines for Nigerians but Nigerians themselves.
