My rural devt programme will bring transformation – Bamidele

Rotimi Ojomoyela

Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Ekiti state, Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele, has pledged “robust rural development plans that would bring unprecedented   transformation and comfort to the people at the grassroots.”

He also gave the assurance that he would embark on aggressive exploitative drives that would ensure the tapping of all the mineral deposits and other natural endowments “that are lying fallow in all the towns and villages in the state for radical and genuine economic renaissance.”
He added that his administration would treat the welfare of traditional rulers as a matter of priority if elected governor in the June 21 election.
Bamidele, who promised to accord the monarchs the utmost respect they deserved, said his welfare package would be extended to traditional chiefs in all the 132 towns and villages to enable them to play their expected supportive roles.

The chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Legislative Budget and Research, also said his administration would strengthen the welfare package to the monarchs “so that they can contribute meaningfully to the development of the state, rather than scrapping it.”
He stated this yesterday during his campaign rally in Emure, Ise/Orun and Ikere local governments, describing as “baseless and unfounded,” the rumour making the rounds that the LP had no plans for traditional rulers.
He said. “We are quite aware of the enormous roles being played by traditional rulers as stabilising factors in our society. We are not only going to improve on their welfare packages being enjoyed, but we will extend it to all the chiefs.”
