My wife may have been killed by burglars – Aghanya

Ex-Commissioner of Police, Aghanya Ibezimako, Monday stated that he was with his wife two days before she was killed on Friday.
He also ruled out allegations that she may have been killed by assassins.

Aghanya, who stated this when Governor Samuel Ortom paid him a condolence visit, noted that he left Makurdi where he came to make arrangements for their daughter’s wedding Wednesday not knowing that his wife would be murdered two days after.
He described his wife, late Eunice Aghanya, as a strong woman who behaved like a man, adding that she never liked moving about with security.

He said his wife may have been killed by some burglars and not assassins as alleged in some quarters.
Aghanya said his wife lives alone in the house and noted that he had advised her to convert one of the buildings in the residence into NYSC Lodge so that there would be activities in the house.
He said he met his wife at Taraku, when he was serving in the place and since then Benue has become their second home.

“We have lived in the house where she was killed for 24 years and I left here as Commissioner of Police 18 years ago and retired twelve years ago.
“I don’t know what she could have done to anyone to think of assassinating her.

“From my experience as a retired police man, I think my wife may have been killed by a burglar to cover evidence.”

Speaking, Governor Ortom condemned the gruesome killing of Mrs. Aghannya, describing her as a loving and kind hearted woman who had no controversial issue with anybody both in her business and politics.
