The police in Benue state Thursday said they were working hard to unravel the mystery behind the death of a nine (9) year-old girl, Maria Baba, who allegedly committed suicide at Ankpa quarters area of Makurdi, the Benue state capital.
The late Maria, Blueprint gathered, is from Owukpa in Ogbadibo local government area of the state, brought to Makurdi by the General Overseer of one of the Pentecostal churches in Makurdi as house-help before the incident occurred.
Benue state police command public relations officer, DSP Catherine Sewuese Anene, said the little girl reportedly committed the act right inside her house.
She noted that the command was yet to ascertain why the little girl could think of killing herself at her age, stressing that they had commenced investigation to unravel the mystery.
DSP Anene assured that “police will not relent until the truth about the suicide is dug out” even though they were yet to arrest anyone in connection with the crime.
Meanwhile, it was learnt that the late Maria may have killed herself after she was allegedly accused of bed-wetting on several occasions and beaten up by her guardians.
When our correspondent in company of some journalists visited the residence of the General Overseer of the Mount Zion Ministry, Makurdi, some members of the family declined comments, saying their mother had gone to the police headquarters to sign documents before travelling to the village for burial.
