N-Power beneficiaries in Ebonyi raise alarm over extortion

Thousands of beneficiaries of N-Power Ebonyi state Thursday, raised alarm over high level of extortion by the team leaders in the state.

Blueprint gathered that beneficiaries were compelled to pay two hundred naira between April 3rd and 4th, before they could sign their February and March clearance form at the Npower office in Abakaliki.

One of the Npower volunteers who simply gave his name as ukpai told our reporters that earlier in January, when three weeks training was organised for the N-Agro, the beneficiaries in Abakaliki local government area were compelled to paid 50 naira for two days before they could write their name in the attendance list.

He said” I know that federal government did not ask them to collect any money from us but since they have decided to, no problem one day they will vomit it.

“Imagine 1000 of us paying N200 that is big money and they even said it will be monthly.

Another victim mercy Igwe said because she did not have N200 her form was rejected until a friend lends her the money to pay.

When Blueprint visited the venue for the clearance, the lady who was collecting the money openly told the volunteers that they were working under instruction.

When our reporter asked a man who gave his name as chidi on whose mandate they were collecting the money, chidi explained that it was for logistics and sending of text messages.

He referred our reporter to Npower main office if he wants further information on the payment.

He further said that the decision was taken during the Ebonyi Npower management meeting.
