N2.5bn Tatabu bridge repairs for completion June

The federal government has assured that the Tatabu bridge in Niger state, which is presently undergoing repairs, will be ready for use before the end of next month.

It would be recalled that the bridge, located along Tegina-Mokwa-Jebba route, collapsed last year, leading to heavy gridlock on the route, which links the Northern region with the Southern part of the country.

The reconstruction of bridge along Tegina-Jebba road was awarded in June last year to CGC Nigeria Ltd., at the cost of N2.5bn.

Inspecting the project, the Minister of state 11 for Power, Works and Housing, Surveyor Sulaiman Hassan Zarma, attributed the collapse to heavy vehicles plying the road and poor maintenance of the existing infrastructure.

According to him, the project was part of federal government’s commitment to fixing infrastructural decay in the country.

Also speaking, the Niger state Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe, who received the minister at the project site, lauded the government on the repair of the bridge.

Balarabe, however, appealed to the federal government to come up with laws restricting overloading on the road in order to preserve it and expand its life span.

Earlier in his address, the project Manager for the contract, Nil Yong, assured that it will be delivered for usage next month.
