N28bn infrastructure devt contract for Wasa district

Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) yesterday signed a N28.1 billion contract with Gilmor Nigeria Limited for the provision of infrastructure at the housing scheme in Wasa district.

The affordable housing with infrastructure to be built on a 367-hectare land would have an estimate of 5, 000 houses.
Minister of State for FCT who now doubles as Supervising Minister of Police Affairs, Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide, said the signing of the contract followed the recent approval of the contract by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
According to her, this is part of the administration’s efforts to provide affordable mass housing for low-income earners, as well as increase the housing stock in the FCT.

The agreement with Gilmor had 48 months’ completion period which would pave the way for construction of the low cost houses.
She said the land would be allocated to housing co-operatives which would get developers to build affordable houses for them, according to their specifications, adding that the FCTA would ensure that the houses were up to standard and in line with housing guidelines and supervisory regulations.

The minister said: “The FCTA, through Gilmor, will provide drainage, bridge work, power, street light, telecommunication, water distribution network among others. All the developer will do is to go in and build the houses directly for beneficiaries.”
She expressed the hope that “there will be no secondary market for the houses so that the intended objective will be realised; civil servants are major stakeholders in the FCT so they should be provided these houses.”

In his remarks, Managing Director of Gilmor Nigeria Limited, Engr. Moshe Ben Nachom, assured that the company would provide quality infrastructure at the district.
“We want to assure of our commitment. We will do all the best for the success of this project,” he said.
