N298m for 2014 National Qur’anic Recitation Competition

Two hunderd and seventy participants from 27 states of the federation are expected to grace the 28th Annual Qur’anic Recitation Competition scheduled to begin from February 14, 2014, in Dutse, the Jigawa state capital.

Addressing journalists on Monday in Dutse, chairman of the local organising committee, who is also the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Haruna Wakil, and the Commissioner for Information, Youths, Sports and Culture, who is the chairman on Information, said five males and five females from each state were selected to participate.

Wakil said N298 million had been set aside for the occasion which would hold from February 14 to 22, 2014.
According to him, it is the first time the Quranic Recitation competition will be computerised in the country.
He said the Special Guest of Honour would be the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, adding that the Guest Speaker would be the Chief Imam of the University of Nigeria Nsukka, Sheikh Adam Abdullahi Idoko.

He added that Vice President Namadi Sambo would serve as the Special Guest of Honour at the closing ceremonies, while his wife, Amina, would be turbaned as the female overall winner.
Wakil also said the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar would be the Royal Father of the Day, stressing that the governor of Lagos state, Chief Babantunde Fasola, would be the chairman of the closing ceremonies.
