‘N40m fraud’: Court adjourns Imo lawmaker’s suit against ex-girl friend

An Owerri High Court presided over by Justice Innocent Njoku has adjourned a case of alleged fraud against one Nkeiruka Cynthia Igbigbi Kamalu over estranged girl friend to a federal lawmaker representing Ohaji Egbema, Oguta and Oru West federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Uju Kingsley Chima.

In a charge sheet No. OW/195C/2019, Uju claimed that Kamalu in collaboration with one Muoneke Christopher duped him of over forty million naira after she deceived him with alleged Canadian fake documents to enable her travel to Canada to deliver a baby for him.

He further stated that the suspect in connivance with others at large, did not only dupe him of over N40 million but also made away with a Toyota car and other valuables, adding that she  blackmailed and threatened his life between 2018 and 2019 respectively.

Uju who admitted coming from the same village with the suspect, said he obliged to meet with Mrs. Cynthia Kamalu for discussion after all entreaties from her, regretting that when the whole issue appeared to him as a calculated blackmail and fraud, he had to play down on her closeness with him.

Also in her statement, Kamalu denied duping him of the amount. She said  Uju who dated her for 25 years ended up destroying her marriage when her husband caught them in a hotel.

She said the only money received from Uju was for the printing of billboards meant for his House of Representatives seat campaign, adding that all efforts made to collect the remaining money he promised for the upkeep of her children after her husband divorced her were futile.

Meanwhile, all efforts made to get lawyers to the two parties to comment further on the case proved abortive as they declined comment.
